She got her start as the State Director of AARP Louisiana where she led the award-winning Liveable Communities Partnership Project in Hollygrove, a community that was flooded and submerged in water after Hurricane Katrina. Not only did the partnership receive an award from the MetLife Foundation for achieving a 67% reduction in violent crime, but it also helped implement strategies to reduce health and transportation issues, as well as rebuild the senior center.
